Representative Cases EMPLOYMENT DISPUTES AND DISCRIMINATION CLAIMS Age Discrimination : Successfully defended a local bank against claims of age discrimination and wrongful termination brought by a former Vice President. Arbitration/Mediation : Represented clients before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Investigations : Conducted internal investigations for clients of complaints and allegations of sexual harassment and national origin discrimination. SECURITIES LITIGATION AND ARBITRATION Purchase of Fraudulent Securities : Secured a million dollar jury verdict for an investor who had been sold fraudulent securities by a national security scheme and defended the verdict on appeal through the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. Security Claims : Successfully arbitrated claims of investors concerning churning of their brokerage accounts. Prior Experience Before joining Sullivan Weinstein & McQuay, ned was a partner in the litigation department of Perkins, Smith & Cohen, LLP where his practice included employment relations and securities arbitration and commercial litigation. Prior to that, Ned was a litigation attorney in the Office of the Solicitor, U.S. Department of Labor in Washington D.C. handling employment matters with national significance and defending national multi-agency discrimination claims. While at the Department of Labor, he received the U.S. Department of Labor Special Achievement and Meritorious Achievement Awards. Williams College, B.A., 1968 Professional and Community Affiliations Ned is a member of the bars of the Supreme Court of the United States, the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts, and the United States Court of Appeals for the First, Second and Ninth Circuits. He is a member of the American and Massachusetts Bar Associations. Ned is presently serving his seventh term as the Town Moderator for the Town of Concord, Massachusetts and is the Treasurer of the Massachusetts Moderators Association. Ned served three terms on the Board of Trustees of Northfield Mount Hermon School in Northfield, Massachusetts; two terms on the Board of Directors of the Alumni Program Council of Independent Schools; and one term on the Board of Directors of World Neighbors, Inc. in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is presently serving on the Board of Directors of the Bemis Company in Neenah, Wisconsin, as the President of the Community Agencies Corporation in Concord, Massachusetts and on the Board of Directors of the Union Club in Boston, Massachusetts.
